Głównym celem zrealizowanego działania naukowego było przeprowadzenie wstępnych badań ilościowych (CAWI) i pogłębionych badań jakościowych (IDI) dotyczących przemian religijności polskiego społeczeństwa w okresie pandemii COVID-19 i po niej. Badanie miało na celu zweryfikowanie zjawiska polaryzacji religijności (intensyfikacja praktyk u osób zaangażowanych oraz sekularyzacja u osób praktykujących nieregularnie) i osadzenie zaobserwowanych zmian w ramach teorii sekularyzacji, prywatyzacji i deprywatyzacji religii oraz nowej duchowości. W okresie sierpień – wrzesień 2025 roku zrealizowano 20 pogłębionych wywiadów (IDI) z osobami, które w badaniu CAWI (a także w ramach dodatkowej rekrutacji, która okazała się niezbędna) zadeklarowały trwałą zmianę swojego zaangażowania religijnego w ciągu ostatnich 5 lat. Próba została celowo zróżnicowana na dwie podgrupy: osoby, u których nastąpił spadek religijności (10 IDI) oraz osoby, u których uległa ona wzmocnieniu (10 IDI). Dodatkowo uczestników obu grup starano się zróżnicować ze względu na płeć, wiek i miejsce zamieszkania.
